yucca valley
2023-present
situated on a breathtaking property with a hidden mountaintop valley providing limitless views and privacy while easily accessible to town. this project is an extension of the themes of our previous desert work— forms arising out of the land to land, using the new intervention to try to rectify the scarring of old insensitive grading, balancing enclosure and exposure, and using the structure to magnify and intensify the experience of being on the property. building on properties with national park-level natural beauty poses its own challenges and is something we consider carefully in the design. an ancient fault line running along an escarpment provides the inspiration for the dislodgement of the two main masses of the house.
