designs for a community of eight new vacation rental properties in east joshua tree. the concept centered on creating strong shapes that would read from aerial photos to create a large scale cohesive sculptural statement while also creating landmarks on a otherwise completely barren and featureless landscape. these projects represent another aspect of our desert projects— how to handle projects in the vast flat lands and the anxiety and discomfort those boundless spaces create. the structures need to create their center of gravity by burrowing into the land, enclosing space or extending into the space.
