bellefontaine kitchen
interior remodel and addition
pasadena
2015-2017
this kitchen was the second project we completed at the same property and both carried over some of the same concepts we investigated on the first project and pushed them forward. we were still looking at a contemporary expression of the arts and crafts movement with a celebration of natural materials and workmanship. the casework is exectuted in a combination of strict shaker traditional style and an open framework bin style with exposed dovetails in solid wood for the ‘working’ section of the kitchen. the ideas was that the kitchen would be a workshop for exploring. the plan lays out separates zones for cooking, cleaning, and baking all centered around a thick wood slab topped island. the backdrop to this all is a custom steel and glass conservatory structure that open the kitchen to the tree canopy outside. Sinks were fabricated from heavy gauge zinc or concrete with de-chromed commercial fixtures.
